General FAQ

Who can use ZEROSPAM?

ZEROSPAM is for organizations that have a domain name and that are able to receive email on this domain.

What antivirus does ZEROSPAM use?

ZEROSPAM currently uses ClamAV, a world-renowned software that is used by many other reputable providers in the IT field, such as Apple (which uses it in Mac OS X Server to analyze emails) and Check Point (which uses it for some of its on-board systems).

How does ZEROSPAM protect its customers from Directory Harvesting?

ZEROSPAM's servers store valid and invalid email addresses in the cache. If several messages target an invalid address, the system first verifies the validity of the address. If it determines that the address is invalid, it blocks subsequent connection attempts to the same address. In addition, ZEROSPAM's management tools allow customers to define a list of valid addresses. Emails sent to recipients not on this list will automatically be rejected.

Is your solution effective against image spam or spam in the form of PDF attachments?

Extremely effective. ZEROSPAM's filtering architecture uses message fingerprinting technology by Cloudmark in order to block image spam and spam with PDF attachments. No other technique is as effective against this form of spam.

What is SPAM costing our company?

According to a conservative estimate, if an employee spends five minutes a day managing spam, the monthly loss of productivity is $45. However, other losses are also incurred due to spam. In addition to the $45 per month, there's the needless overload on the email gateway, wasted bandwidth, and the time invested by network administrators managing the anti-spam solution or trying to control the problem. The cost of spam may take on epic proportions if the business is infected by a virus or if an employee falls victim to phishing.

How effective is ZEROSPAM?

ZEROSPAM has a proven 96%+ detection rate and its false positive rate has been established at 0.001%. This data comes from an independent evaluation conducted by CRIM in 2006.

How confidential is the service?

Email is sent on the Internet in plain text, like a postcard. The content of most email is not encrypted and administrators along the email's path could theoretically read the messages that go through their network. ZEROSPAM is the last link in this transmission chain. The email's passage through ZEROSPAM's servers does not, however, incur an additional confidentiality risk, as email goes through ZEROSPAM's infrastructure at lightning speed and only the communication logs are stored.

Furthermore, ZEROSPAM guarantees in writing that none of its customers' email will be recorded, archived or reproduced. ZEROSPAM also guarantees in writing to protect the confidentiality of its clients' list of electronic addresses and will not disclose, share or sell them to a third party. This clause is included in ZEROSPAM's Terms of Service, which is sent to all customers when they subscribe.

All our system administrators are required to undergo rigorous background security checks, including criminality and credit record checks. Furthermore, they must abide by ZEROSPAM's strict code of ethics. It is also reassuring to know that ZEROSPAM is managed by security professionals who have CISSP certification from (ISC)².

From the start, confidentiality has never been breached at ZEROSPAM. That's why we've earned the trust of so many prestigious clients, including some of the largest law firms in the country and government agencies.

If you are dealing with highly confidential files, ZEROSPAM recommends that you encode your messages using an encryption solution to prevent them from being read by anyone along the email's path.

If I subscribe to ZEROSPAM, will there be a delay in receiving my emails?

Yes, but the delay is not noticeable. In fact, the average delay incurred by the passage of email through ZEROSPAM's servers is approximately 2 seconds.

Is there a risk of losing emails?

No. There is no risk of losing emails, as ZEROSPAM uses a fully redundant infrastructure. In fact, if your server goes down, ZEROSPAM will prevent you from losing emails by accepting and storing your messages until your server is working again.

Is ZEROSPAM compatible with MS Exchange Server?

Yes. ZEROSPAM is completely independent of your email software.

Does ZEROSPAM require software installation?

No. No installation is required and it only takes ZEROSPAM's experts a few hours to configure the service.

How is the system really intelligent?

ZEROSPAM uses cutting-edge detection techniques to block dangerous content. The system adds new rules based on information gathered from rejected messages.

How is the ZEROSPAM approach different from other services and software currently on the market?

ZEROSPAM eliminates malicious content before it reaches your infrastructure. The service requires no updates and completely frees you from having to manage spam.

Is it possible for us to examine rejected emails?

Emails rejected on the basis of content are put in a quarantine, which is accessible using a Web interface or your usual email client sofware.
