Secondary MX

NEVER NEGLECT YOUR SECONDARY

Most customers define a secondary MX record (and sometimes a third MX record) in their DNS. If the main server is down, the secondary MX routes emails to an alternative server. If that server does not respond, the third MX will redirect emails to a third server. When a server no longer accepts emails, sources that are unable to contact it will make additional attempts to establish communication, but this may be done at infrequent intervals. Secondary MXs communicate more frequently with the main server than sending servers do. That way, as soon as the main server is running again, emails stored during the service interruption can be forwarded to the customer in a more timely fashion.

Secondary MXs are more exposed to spam and other email-borne threats than primary MXs. The reason is very simple: spammers are well aware that servers used as secondaries are not as well protected as the main gateways. By pointing your secondary MX records to ZEROSPAM, you ensure total protection in the event that your main gateway becomes congested or malfunctions. What's more, you enjoy a redundant, completely safe network that is continuously monitored. For more information on the secondary MX service offered by ZEROSPAM, contact us.
